SEPTEMBER FINALLY WON A ROUND.

Yesterday still belonged to summer. Wednesday answers with showers, a high near 89°F and a city best handled in smaller pieces: one I-70 ramp closure, a $14 Westport smash burger, free markets and trivia, and an almost-new moon before Thursday’s reset.

01 · WEATHER

Showers and thunderstorms are likely today, with a high near 89°F and a 70% rain chance. The air stays humid, but the triple-digit feel finally backs off.

02 · OVERNIGHT

Kansas City carried warm, humid air into the early morning. Today’s real change is not a cold start; it is rain moving into the daytime forecast.

03 · ROADS / TRANSIT / AIRPORT

The Indiana Avenue ramp to eastbound I-70 closes roughly 7 a.m.–3 p.m. today through Thursday. The U.S. 169 overnight repair window was scheduled to clear by 6 a.m.; check your airline directly before an airport run.

04 · SPORTS

Arizona beat Kansas City 5–3 in 11 innings Tuesday night despite Michael Wacha’s league-leading 20th quality start. Across town, Andy Reid says Patrick Mahomes is likely to start Monday’s opener against Denver if there is no setback.

05 · LUNCH

Beer Kitchen’s $14 Smash’d Wednesday leads the list; KCK Black Restaurant Week continues with spots including Ms. R’s Cafe, The Neighborhood Eats and Jones Bar-B-Q. Confirm individual hours and specials before crossing town.

06 · FREE / LOW-COST

Try the Downtown Grandview Farmers Market, the Downtown Lee’s Summit Farmers Market, free trivia at Frost from 7–9 p.m., or Music Bingo at Kansas City Bier Company.

07 · NEIGHBORHOODS

Westport has the burger special, KCK still has Black Restaurant Week, Grandview and Lee’s Summit have market stops, and the Crossroads has a Wednesday $2 Kölsch pour at BKS Artisan Ales.

08 · ARTS & CULTURE

Linda Hall’s Alchemy of Knowledge exhibition, Come From Away at KC Rep, Jesus Christ Superstar at Music Theater Heritage and Native Arts in Miniature all give the day an indoor second act.

09 · CITY HOROSCOPE

Aries: leave before the cloud burst. Taurus: take the long lunch. Gemini: keep the umbrella by the door. Cancer: choose one neighborhood. Leo: save the outfit for evening. Virgo: check the ramp twice. Libra: pick the indoor room. Scorpio: trust the darker cloud. Sagittarius: don’t cross town for a maybe. Capricorn: leave ten minutes early. Aquarius: bring a second layer. Pisces: Thursday is the reset.

10 · MOON NOTE

The waning crescent is only about 4.5% illuminated. The new moon arrives Thursday night, giving Wednesday one last sliver before the reset.

11 · EDITORIAL DISCOVERY

After a run of heat, the useful shift is scale: one neighborhood, one meal, one indoor room, one eye on the sky. September does not need a grand entrance to change the city’s rhythm.

12 · TOP FIVE

Rain likely · Indiana-to-I-70 ramp closure · $14 Westport smash burger · free markets or trivia · Royals extras and a Chiefs opener update.

13 · SOURCE LIST
