Talk About the Weather — Wednesday, July 29, 2026

Wednesday · July 29, 2026

Kansas City is already carrying the day in the pavement. At 7:20 a.m., the air was mostly cloudy near 79°F. The official forecast calls for a high near 93°F, a heat index near 103°F and scattered chances for a storm. Put water in the car before the keys.

STEP OUTSIDE KC — WEATHER FINDINGS

Partly sunny, humid and hot. High near 93°F; tonight near 74°F. A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms appears before noon and again after 3 p.m. Patchy smoke is possible this afternoon and late tonight. Storms that form may produce localized heavy rain, but severe weather is not expected today. Thursday brings a larger chance for storms and heavy downpours.

LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

A nearly 8,000-square-foot Texas Roadhouse is planned near North 98th Street in Kansas City, Kansas, with opening estimates pointing toward summer 2027. Closer to downtown, the Royals’ Crown Center stadium concept moved into another round of neighborhood and planning discussion Tuesday.

ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

MoDOT will close the Missouri 92 ramp to northbound I-35 in Clay County from 7 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday for pavement repair. The northbound I-35 exit ramp to Missouri 92 is also listed for overnight work. RideKC’s service-alert desk is carrying five active notices this morning; riders should check their route before leaving.

FROM THE STANDS

The Twins walked off the Royals 3–2 Tuesday night. Kansas City returns to Target Field tonight at 6:40 p.m. Central. At home, the KC Current face Racing Louisville at CPKC Stadium at 7 p.m.; Kansas City enters 8-7-1 with 25 points, and the match airs on CBS Sports Network.

KC LUNCH LINE

North Italia: “Game On. Lunch Is Served” is listed for today. Minsky’s Pizza on the Plaza: the Minsky’s and Joe’s KC BBQ pizza is back. Beer Kitchen: Smash’d Wednesday is on the board. Union on the Hill: Wednesday’s lunch special is a seven-ounce ground-chuck burger with fries. Verify availability with the restaurant before making a special trip.

KC WITHOUT A COVER

The Linda Hall Library’s “Alchemy of Knowledge: Science and Mystery from Shakespeare to AI” exhibition is open today. Crown Center’s free Pigeon Comes to Kansas City exhibition continues. The Kansas City Public Library summer reading program gives participants a free book after five completed books through August 15. For a no-ticket route, take the Historic City Market gateway, the River Market sidewalks and the river overlook in one short loop before the afternoon heat peaks.

EDITORIAL DISCOVERY

Mr D’s Donut Shop is preparing additional locations in Overland Park and Kansas City, Missouri. In Kansas City, Kansas, the Texas Roadhouse plan on North 98th Street has cleared rezoning. These are not same-day openings; they mark where restaurant investment is moving next.

WESTERN ZODIAC — CITY HOROSCOPE

Fire signs: take the shorter route and keep the first promise small. Earth signs: check the time before agreeing to one more stop. Air signs: send the address, not another paragraph. Water signs: leave before the sky decides for you.

MOON NOTE

Tonight’s moon is a visual note rather than a planning tool: look east after sunset if the cloud cover breaks.

A GRAIN OF RICE

By noon, the metal door handle will be hot enough to make the point. Water bottle. Sunglasses. One errand crossed off in ink.
