STEP OUTSIDE KC

At 3:54 p.m., Kansas City Downtown Airport reported fair skies and 90°F with 44% humidity, a north wind at 9 mph and 10 miles of visibility. The heat index was 92°F.

The National Weather Service expects a mostly clear night with a low near 67°F and a north-northwest wind becoming calm. Thursday should be sunny with a high near 85°F.

LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

Kansas City, Kansas, is still working through the physical aftermath of the Aug. 18 storm. Kansas National Guard members began assisting public right-of-way debris removal at 8 a.m. Wednesday, working alongside local crews. KSHB reported 117 customers remained without power at 7:17 p.m. Tuesday, most north of State Avenue, after crews had already hauled away more than 4,500 cubic yards of storm debris.

The Earl Watson Community Center remains an overnight shelter and resource hub. Operation BBQ Relief is scheduled to return to the Quindaro Community Center parking lot at noon Wednesday while food lasts.

ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

MoDOT says bridge work continues on I-70 near 18th Street through Saturday, Aug. 29, with lane and ramp closures tied to the new westbound bridge work over Indiana Avenue, 18th Street and the KCT railroad. Check the traveler map before crossing the east side of downtown.

The daytime work windows have passed. Tonight, southbound I-435 at Stadium Drive is set for a double-lane closure, and the northbound I-435 ramp to westbound I-70 is scheduled to close from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday.

FROM THE STANDS

The Royals carry a nine-game winning streak into Wednesday night in Toronto after beating the Blue Jays 5–3 Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. Central at Rogers Centre, with MLB listing Randy Dobnak against Spencer Miles.

The Chiefs close the preseason Friday at Arrowhead against Seattle at 7 p.m. Central. The Kansas City Current return to CPKC Stadium Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against the North Carolina Courage for Brain Health Awareness Night.
