FALL ARRIVES AT 7:05.

Overcast sits low over Kansas City before sunrise. At 4:54 a.m., Downtown Airport reported 64°F, 90 percent humidity and a northwest wind at 5 mph. Patchy fog hangs around before 10 a.m.; the day stays mostly cloudy with a high near 71°F and a low around 56°F tonight.

The calendar changes seasons after work. Kansas City's September equinox lands at 7:05 p.m., five minutes before a 7:15 sunset. Between those two clocks: a city-planning docket, a home Royals game, free music at Union Cemetery and a Tuesday that feels more like a threshold than a finish line.

1. STEP OUTSIDE KC

Fog first. A 71-degree afternoon follows. The National Weather Service forecast calls for patchy fog before 10 a.m., then mostly cloudy skies with a north wind around 5 to 7 mph. Tonight stays mostly cloudy and falls to about 56°F.

2. LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

Kansas City's camera network is the morning question. A new KCUR analysis reports that data from Kansas City-area Flock automated license-plate readers has been searched hundreds of thousands of times by out-of-state law-enforcement agencies, sharpening local questions about who can see the data and how it is used.

A second regional note belongs on the practical side of the page: Kansas health officials reported two measles cases associated with domestic travel, the state's first reported cases since the 2025 outbreak.

3. ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

The long detours are still the useful ones today. RideKC lists Routes 18 Indiana and 27 27th Street on detour for the I-70 Improvement Project through 2027. The 18th Street Bridge project also keeps the 402 Johnson-Quivira and 118 8th Street on reroute. Check the live alert before crossing the metro.

4. FROM THE STANDS

The Royals are back at Kauffman tonight. Chicago White Sox at Kansas City starts at 6:40 p.m. Central. MLB lists left-hander Anthony Kay for Chicago and Daniel Lynch IV for Kansas City as the probable starters.

5. KC LUNCH LINE

Four Tuesday lunch doors are open: The Westside Local serves lunch 11 a.m.–3 p.m.; Baba's Pantry runs 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; Mildred's opens at 7 a.m. for the breakfast-to-lunch handoff; Buffalo State Pizza in the Crossroads runs 11 a.m.–9 p.m.

6. KC WITHOUT A COVER

Four low-cost Tuesday moves: Linda Hall's Alchemy of Knowledge exhibition is free and open 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Kansas City Symphony's Mobile Music Box plays Union Cemetery at 6 p.m. for free; Beer Kitchen's Music Bingo runs 7–9 p.m. and is free to play; Kansas City on the Cheap lists Roasterie Factory Tours at $5 with times varying.

7. AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS

The city map is on the docket at 1:30 p.m. The Neighborhood Planning and Development Committee agenda reaches from an industrial plat near Highway 210 and North Arlington to a Red Bridge assisted-living and memory-care proposal, a West 11th Street rezoning for residential development with ground-floor commercial space, and additional housing and industrial proposals across the metro. These are agenda items, not completed approvals.

8. ARTS & CULTURE

Two rooms carry very different versions of the city. At the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, VISUAL VOICE brings together six artists working through lineage, spirituality, politics, photography, abstraction, adornment, identity and cultural memory; Tuesday hours begin at 10 a.m. Linda Hall's Alchemy of Knowledge moves from Renaissance science and rare books toward the disruption of contemporary AI.

9. CITY HOROSCOPE

Aries: start before the fog lifts. Taurus: pick the lunch room and stay put. Gemini: read the source, not the rumor. Cancer: keep the evening close. Leo: give the game your full attention. Virgo: finish the practical thing before sunset. Libra: let the season turn without redesigning the whole week. Scorpio: protect the useful information. Sagittarius: leave one route flexible. Capricorn: put the deadline on the calendar. Aquarius: follow the city question farther than the headline. Pisces: look west at 7:05.

10. MOON NOTE

The Moon rises at 5:22 p.m. over Kansas City, waxing gibbous and about 86.8 percent illuminated at lunar noon. It crosses the meridian around 10:31 p.m. The full moon arrives September 26 at 11:49 a.m.

11. EDITORIAL DISCOVERY

At 7:05 p.m., fall begins. Kansas City gets 12 hours, 8 minutes and 59 seconds between sunrise and sunset today; sunset lands at 7:15 p.m. The equinox is not a weather forecast. It is a line in the sky, and this year the city crosses it under cloud cover with baseball starting at almost the same hour.

12. TOP FIVE

1. Give the fog until 10 a.m. 2. Pick one of four verified Tuesday lunch rooms. 3. Watch the 1:30 p.m. planning docket if your neighborhood is on it. 4. Royals–White Sox starts at 6:40 p.m. 5. Fall begins at 7:05 p.m., with sunset ten minutes later.

13. SOURCE LIST

Fog on the windshield. First pitch under the lights. The season changes at 7:05.
