STEP OUTSIDE KC
Clear early, partly sunny through much of the day, and hotter by late afternoon. The forecast reaches about 85 degrees near 2 p.m., when a thunderstorm is possible, then pushes toward 90 by 5 p.m. Carry water; keep the umbrella close enough to reach without treating the whole day like rain.
LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO
No verified citywide emergency notice displaced the morning during the official-first check. What carried overnight is construction and access: Kansas City’s August 14 Revive the Vine update keeps work visible around 18th Street, including temporary sidewalk impacts near Brooklyn Avenue and Prospect Avenue. The Nelson-Atkins remains a strong indoor answer to the heat, with free general admission and rolling 2026 maintenance closures in parts of the Bloch Building. The streetcar now connects the River Market, downtown, Union Station, the museum corridor and UMKC without a fare.
