THE STORM BROKE THE HEAT.

Morning showers finish the job last night’s storms started. Kansas City steps down into the low 80s, the Royals take an off day, and Red Thursday gives the city a reason to move slower and look around.

· WEATHER — The heat finally gives way. Morning showers and thunderstorms taper toward a partly sunny afternoon. NWS puts the high near 83°F, with a calmer night around the mid-60s.

· OVERNIGHT — Rain did the resetting. The overnight period stayed wet and stormy, carrying Wednesday’s heat break into Thursday morning before drier air begins to take over.

· ROADS / TRANSIT / AIRPORT — Construction still writes the route. Troost MAX remains rerouted for the U.S. 71/Bannister bridge project, and Route 107 remains on detour around 47th and Rainbow. MCI is operating without a broad cancellation pattern.

· SPORTS — The Royals get a travel day. Kansas City is off today after closing the Arizona series. The next game is Friday at Boston at 6:10 p.m. CT.

· LUNCH — Keep lunch local and west. KCK Black Restaurant Week continues through the week. Make today a return visit or choose one 913 stop and keep the route compact.

· FREE / LOW-COST — Red Thursday does the work. Chiefs Red Thursday flag sales at City Market, Brookside Fall Sip & Shop, live music in Lee’s Summit and Linda Hall give Thursday several low-cost ways out.

· NEIGHBORHOODS — Brookside, River Market, Olathe, Lee’s Summit. Today spreads activity across the metro. Pick one neighborhood and stay there rather than crossing the city for every listing.

· ARTS & CULTURE — The city has multiple second acts. Come From Away, Disney’s Newsies, Jesus Christ Superstar, live jazz and the Berlin Wall exhibition are all on the Thursday calendar.

· CITY HOROSCOPE — Dress for relief, not summer. Every western sign gets the same assignment: stop planning around triple digits and use the cooler day to finish one thing you kept postponing.

· MOON NOTE — The sky gets quieter tonight. After the morning weather clears, the evening trend is calmer and mostly clear—use the darker, cooler hours as the reset.

· EDITORIAL DISCOVERY — A weather break changes the city’s scale. When the temperature drops sharply from the week’s peak, ordinary errands become neighborhood life again. That is the story today.

· TOP FIVE — Morning rain · low-80s afternoon · Red Thursday · Royals off day · choose one neighborhood and stay there.

· SOURCE LIST — National Weather Service, RideKC, MLB Royals, Visit KC, Visit Kansas City Kansas, and current airport operations reporting.
