Talk About The Weather — Thursday, October 22, 2026

7 min read

A sunny Thursday, a Northeast listening room, a free gathering for music makers, and a museum table that invites you to stay.

Last Night in the Metro

Louisville beat Kansas 89–83 at Allen Fieldhouse on Wednesday night in a men’s basketball exhibition. KU’s official game center lists the result as final, and the university published its recap at 8:46 p.m.

Kansas led 37–36 at halftime before Louisville scored 53 in the second half. It was an exhibition, so the result does not become a regular-season loss. For the region’s basketball households, Thursday begins with a game to discuss, not a season verdict. KU’s next listed exhibition is against Duke on Sunday, October 25, at noon Central.

City Brief

Thursday’s forecast leaves room for a long walk between commitments: sunny, a high near 78°F and south-southeast wind of 0–5 mph. Thursday night is forecast mostly clear, with a low near 55°F. A morning layer will earn its place again after sunset.

The airport reading below is a timestamped observation from Wednesday night, not a measurement of Thursday morning. Use the live conditions display for the latest report.

Roads, Ramps & Wrecks

Put Saturday’s downtown bus changes on the calendar before the weekend begins. RideKC lists October 24 reroutes for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, 6 a.m.–about 1 p.m., and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, 8 a.m.–about 1 p.m. Street closures may begin earlier. The agency also lists match-related reroutes for Sunday, October 25, from 2 p.m.–about 11 p.m.

For Thursday travel, check the agency’s current trip information: Routes 18 Indiana and 27 27th Street remain on the listed I-70 construction detour. KC Streetcar announced full Riverfront-to-UMKC service restored October 15 after the 5th Street track work. That restoration is a dated service announcement, not proof of uninterrupted operations at this minute.

From the Stands

The Chiefs’ Wednesday practice report is the useful new detail before Sunday’s trip to Seattle: Rashee Rice did not participate, Travis Kelce was limited and Patrick Mahomes participated fully. Those are Wednesday practice designations, not final game-availability decisions. The team’s schedule lists the Seahawks game for October 25 at 7:20 p.m. Central. Kansas City is 5–0 following Sunday’s 22–6 win over the Chargers.

The Current’s next listed home match is Washington Spirit at CPKC Stadium on Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. Central. Treat it as an upcoming match; ticket availability and matchday arrangements need their own check.

Lunch or Late-Night Eats

At Seven Swans Crêperie, 1746 Washington Street, the posted Kansas City fall menu puts apple in both halves of lunch. The $18 Vermonter pairs pork sausage and sharp white cheddar with caramelized apples and rosemary. The $16 Brown Butter Apple Crisp moves the same season toward cinnamon apples, oat crumble and ice cream.

The business posts Thursday hours of 8 a.m.–3 p.m. This is a daytime stop; the menu does not establish that a particular item will remain in stock when you arrive. Prices are the posted menu rates, before any unverified additions, tax or tip. The accompanying photograph is an archive streetscape, not a picture of Seven Swans.

KC Without a Cover

The RINO opens its room at 314 Armour Road in North Kansas City for a free KC Music Industry Networking Night on Thursday, October 22, from 6–9 p.m. Hard Cut Studios is presenting the event; the host lists all ages welcome.

The invitation is to meet people who make local music happen. Bring a question about the work—recording, booking, performing or finding collaborators—and leave room to hear an answer. The listing does not promise a concert lineup. Free admission is explicit; purchases at the venue are separate. Check the host’s current notice before setting out.

Around the Neighborhoods

The Northeast has a public room in the police-chief search tonight. A listening session is scheduled Thursday, October 22, 5:30–7:30 p.m., in the Jim Nunnelly Room of Samuel U. Rodgers’ Propeller Building, 2100 E. 9th Street.

The Board of Police Commissioners says the Kansas City Public Safety Coalition is gathering the qualities residents and people who work in Kansas City want in the next chief. Feedback is to be compiled for the board’s November 17 meeting. Bring a specific neighborhood question about leadership or trust. This is a listening session, not a chief-selection vote; use the announcement’s RSVP link for current attendance details.

Arts & Culture

Kemper Museum’s Thursday program puts a game inside an installation. The Kansas City Public Library’s Madd about Dominoes club joins the museum for play and conversation around Edra Soto’s the place of dwelling, October 22, 6–7:15 p.m., at 4420 Warwick Boulevard.

The host welcomes beginners and experienced players and lists the program as free for all ages. The museum’s details panel lists registration as required, so register ahead and check remaining places. The museum identifies nearby free street parking and paid lots; parking is separate from program admission.

City Horoscope

The factual sky snapshot is calculated for October 22 at 4 a.m. Central. NASA gives the Moon 83.4% illumination; JPL places it in the physical constellation Aquarius. In the separate tropical zodiac convention used for these twelve readings, the Moon is at 10.83° Pisces, the Sun at 28.98° Libra, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, Mars and Jupiter in Leo, and Saturn in Aries.

The notes below are original AVIA AREE creative interpretations for the day. They are invitations to notice the city, not scientific forecasts, promises or NASA/JPL endorsements.

Aries

Saturn in tropical Aries is our cue for a useful kind of restraint. Take one well-formed question into a public room. Give the answer time to arrive before deciding what you will say next.

Taurus

With Mercury and Venus in tropical Scorpio, today’s creative motif is attention beneath the surface. At lunch, notice the small choice that makes a familiar ingredient different. Ask about the work without assuming you know the story.

Gemini

Mercury’s Scorpio placement supplies the second-question theme. If you visit The RINO, move past what someone does to how they learned to do it. A conversation can become more generous when curiosity slows down.

Cancer

The tropical Pisces Moon gives this reading its water-and-memory motif. Make a little room around the table. You do not need to improve everyone’s evening; a welcome and an attentive chair are enough to offer.

Leo

Mars and Jupiter share tropical Leo in the morning snapshot. We use that pairing as a prompt to turn visibility into participation. Bring something useful to the gathering, and remember the person doing the quiet organizing.

Virgo

The Sun’s late-Libra position is a cue to check proportion. Verify the address and the time, then stop revising the whole evening. Let a modest, well-chosen visit count without turning it into a project.

Libra

With the tropical Sun near the end of your sign, let balance mean choosing rather than squeezing more in. Tonight’s public rooms overlap. Give one place your full attention and leave the others for another day.

Scorpio

Mercury and Venus in your tropical sign give our reading a language-and-detail motif. Learn the artist’s name, pronounce it with care and ask what an object means before treating it as a decoration.

Sagittarius

A brightening Moon supplies the long-view image for today. You can cross the metro without collecting the entire city. Follow one specific question far enough to bring home a better understanding of one place.

Capricorn

Saturn in tropical Aries suggests a beginning with some structure around it. Prepare one clear introduction for the music room, or one grounded question for the listening session. Let preparation make meeting people easier.

Aquarius

The Moon’s physical constellation is Aquarius while its tropical label is Pisces. Let those two maps be today’s motif: a different description is not automatically a mistake. Find out what someone is measuring before arguing about the name.

Pisces

The tropical Moon at about eleven degrees Pisces gives this creative reading its theme of receptiveness. Sit down, learn the game and listen. You can join a room without having the most interesting story in it.

Moon Note

The Moon is waxing gibbous: 83.4% illuminated in NASA’s October 22, 4 a.m. Central snapshot, increasing to about 88.3% by 8 p.m. For the Kansas City core, the U.S. Naval Observatory calculates moonrise at 4:36 p.m., sunset at 6:30 p.m. and the Moon’s upper transit at 10:36 p.m.

The next full Moon is calculated for Sunday, October 25, at 11:12 p.m. Central. Tonight offers a bright Moon after sunset if the local sky and your horizon allow. The archive night photograph accompanying this section is atmosphere, not an image of tonight’s Moon.

A Table Is Part of the Architecture

A museum can ask you to look, then ask you to stay. Thursday’s dominoes program at Kemper makes that second invitation concrete. The artist’s own account of the place of dwelling describes ordinary objects from Puerto Rico—iron screens, plastic lawn furniture and fans—reconsidered inside Gunnar Birkerts’ 1994 museum building. Soto connects domestic design with memories of her Catholic upbringing and with questions about how sacred spaces acquire meaning.

Read that history alongside the museum’s invitation to play. A domino table supplies a familiar task and a reason to sit near someone else. The architectural question becomes practical: who gets to feel at home in an art institution?

That is our editorial reading of the work and the program, not a report from a visit or a claim about what every participant will feel. If you go, notice the passage between looking and joining. How does the room change when people use it together?
