Talk About The Weather — Thursday, October 1, 2026
Rain after dark. RideKC detours begin at 5. Sporting plays Seattle. And somewhere on Walnut Street, 1934 is still there.
STEP OUTSIDE KC
The KMKC observation read 73°F and Mostly Cloudy at 3:45 a.m. CDT. Periods of rain are possible later, with locally heavy rain and a thunderstorm risk. Carry the umbrella; the live landing display refreshes the official observation and hides stale readings.
LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO
Rain moved into the conversation as October arrived. KCTV5 reports that city reviewers are considering demolition and grading plans for smaller buildings around the Kansas City Wheel. What replaces them remains an open question.
ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS
RideKC routes 50, 85 and 201 begin Oktoberfest detours at 5 p.m.; street closures may start earlier. The KC Streetcar showed no active service alert at the release check. The prior I-29 claim was removed because it could not be reconfirmed from a current official source.
FROM THE STANDS
Sporting visits Seattle at 8:30 p.m. Central. The Chiefs play at Las Vegas Sunday at 3:25 p.m. on CBS. The Current host Bay FC Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
KC LATE-NIGHT EATS
Helen’s on Armour is the verified late shift, serving Thursday until 3 a.m. Winstead’s Plaza and Taqueria Hernandez remain options; check today’s hours before going.
KC WITHOUT A COVER
Norman Akers speaks at the Nerman from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is free and RSVP is requested. Liberty’s Witches’ Brew keeps store browsing open, while the tasting package is ticketed.
AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS
Liberty starts October with Witches’ Brew. North Kansas City carries the late shift at Helen’s. Kansas City, Kansas marks Atlas9’s anniversary.
ARTS + CULTURE
Norman Akers asks who defines a place. The Symphony hosts Augustin Hadelich at 8 p.m. in Helzberg Hall. Atlas9’s artists’ panel begins at 6:30 p.m. and is listed at $9.
CITY HOROSCOPE
ARIES — You do not have to win the commute. Leave earlier and save the aggression for something useful. TAURUS — Choose the booth. Order the thing you actually wanted. GEMINI — Pick one side of the metro and stay there. CANCER — Home will look convincing once the rain begins. Make one appearance first. LEO — The room needs somebody who notices what everybody else missed. VIRGO — Read the detour before leaving. Then send the message. LIBRA — Put the phone away for twenty minutes and see who is across from you. SCORPIO — Old buildings and forgotten names: Thursday is speaking your language. SAGITTARIUS — Choose one destination worth staying for. CAPRICORN — Confirm the appointment. Log the mileage. Answer the person waiting. AQUARIUS — Go somewhere ideas are actually being discussed. PISCES — Rain gives memory excellent acoustics. Write the detail down.
MOON NOTE
A waning gibbous moon, about 73.7% illuminated, rises around 10:09 p.m. Clouds get first claim. Streetlights get the early evening.
EDITORIAL DISCOVERY
“Nightlife” is too small a word. Workers reset routes. An artist explains a map. A bartender starts a second shift. The city’s night is infrastructure, labor and memory as much as entertainment.
TOP FIVE
1. Take the umbrella. 2. Check RideKC before the evening trip. 3. Sporting at 8:30. 4. See Norman Akers before dinner. 5. End with something longer than a scroll.
