At 3:54 p.m., Kansas City Downtown Airport reported 84°F under fair skies, 44% humidity, north wind at 9 mph with gusts to 17 mph and 10 miles of visibility. The National Weather Service expects a mostly clear night near 65°F, leaving a strong viewing window for tonight’s eclipse.

LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

KC Water is still investigating the Southwest Trafficway cave-in between 28th and 31st streets. Northbound and southbound traffic are each reduced to one lane until further notice. The evening action is simple: avoid the corridor if you can and leave more room if you cannot.

ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

Southwest Trafficway is reduced to one lane in each direction between 28th and 31st streets until further notice after the street cave-in. At 6 p.m., various northbound and southbound I-49 ramps in Jackson County begin overnight closures through September 1. At 7 p.m., the southbound I-435 ramp to eastbound I-70 closes overnight through Saturday morning. At 8 p.m., an eastbound I-70 lane between Broadway Boulevard and Missouri 9 and both West 6th Street on-ramps close until 6 a.m. All highway work is weather permitting.

FROM THE STANDS

Kansas City’s nine-game Royals winning streak ended Wednesday night in Toronto, where the Blue Jays shut out the Royals 3-0. The series closes Thursday at 6:07 p.m. CT. MLB has posted both lineups and confirms Noah Cameron for Kansas City against Spencer Arrighetti for Toronto. Carter Jensen leads off for the Royals, followed by Bobby Witt Jr. The Kansas City Current return home Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against North Carolina Courage, and the Chiefs host Seattle Friday at 7 p.m. for the preseason finale at Arrowhead.

KC WITHOUT A COVER

Museum of Kansas City — Historic Northeast: soft clubbing at Elixir with DJ hunni bunni runs 6–10 p.m. Thursday. The free program needs no ticket, and local maker Julia Pitt’s jewelry pop-up runs alongside it.

KC Live! — Power & Light District: doors open at 6 p.m. for George Birge with Highway Home; live music starts at 7. Entry is now free, subject to capacity, for guests 18 and older.

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art — general admission is free and Thursday gallery hours run until 9 p.m.; special exhibitions can require separate tickets.

French Market — Prairie Village: Adam Galblum’s Thursday live-music set runs 5:30–8 p.m. in the newly expanded café.

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS

East Crossroads is losing another familiar room. Session Taco’s Kansas City location at 409 E. 18th Street is set to close August 30 after nearly a decade. The business still lists Thursday hours of 11 a.m.–10 p.m. The closing turns one storefront into another small marker of how quickly the district’s food map is moving.
