FIRST LIGHT, THEN THE 913.

The sky arrived before the schedule did: orange behind the bridge, cooler air over the river and a Sunday that belongs to Kansas City, Kansas. The best route is local, unhurried and finished before tonight’s rain chance begins to gather.

1 — STEP OUTSIDE KC

At 4:54 a.m., Kansas City Downtown Airport reported partly cloudy skies and 65°F, with 93% humidity, calm wind and 10-mile visibility. Today stays mostly cloudy with a high near 78°F and only a slight daytime storm chance. Tonight brings a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., with a low near 64°F and east-wind gusts as high as 21 mph.

2 — LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

Central Avenue carried the first half of 913 Day weekend on Saturday. Dotteversity brought high-school bands, floats, families and Wyandotte County pride into the street; today the celebration hands itself to Big Eleven Lake.

3 — ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

Sunday is lighter on newly posted maintenance work, but it is not a blank map. Active Improve I-70 construction remains, K-5 has an ongoing single-lane bridge repair south of Sunshine Road, and Art Westport warns that usual approaches may be affected. MoDOT’s next Clay County overnight package begins Monday at 7 p.m. Check KC Scout before leaving.

4 — FROM THE STANDS

Sporting Kansas City beat LAFC 3–1 Saturday night. The Royals lost 5–1 in Boston and close the series today at 12:35 p.m. Central, with Noah Cameron listed against Payton Tolle. The Chiefs host Denver Monday at 7:15 p.m. at Arrowhead.

5 — KC LUNCH LINE

KCK Black Restaurant Week ends today with 11 Black-owned restaurants in the lineup and select $9.13 specials. Jones Bar-B-Q, Wilson’s Pizza & Grill and Ms. R’s Cafe are three places to start; confirm each location’s Sunday hours and special before making the drive.

6 — KC WITHOUT A COVER

The 913 Day celebration at Big Eleven Lake runs 2–8 p.m. with free barbecue, a live DJ, a drill-team performance and a bounce house. Art Westport runs 11 a.m.–5 p.m. The Lucile H. Bluford Branch hosts Chess Game Day from noon–4 p.m., and KCK Public Library lists a youth art workshop at the Main Library from 2–3:30 p.m.

7 — AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS

KCK gets the day’s center of gravity at Big Eleven Lake and across Black Restaurant Week tables. Westport keeps local art in the street until five. Downtown turns toward the Kauffman Center. Bonner Springs keeps the gates open for the Renaissance Festival’s Viking Invasion weekend.

8 — ARTS & CULTURE

Art Westport’s final day runs 11 a.m.–5 p.m.; TooBig2Fail and the Jackie Myers Band play from noon–3 p.m. The Kansas City Symphony presents Out of This World at the Kauffman Center, moving through The Planets, John Williams film scores and a contemporary work about Apollo 11. The Kansas City Renaissance Festival continues its Viking Invasion weekend.

9 — CITY HOROSCOPE

Western zodiac only. Aries: choose the first route. Taurus: let lunch be the plan. Gemini: check the closure twice. Cancer: take the family stop. Leo: give the street its stage. Virgo: confirm the hours. Libra: choose art over hurry. Scorpio: keep one plan in reserve. Sagittarius: cross the state line on purpose. Capricorn: handle Monday tonight. Aquarius: follow the neighborhood story. Pisces: stay for the softer light.

10 — MOON NOTE

A waxing crescent, about 11% illuminated, sets around 8:31 p.m. in Kansas City, Kansas. The cloud cover may hide it; the thin shape is still there.

11 — EDITORIAL DISCOVERY

The Food Hall Problem asks what happens to independent chefs when the shared room that launched them disappears. Read it as a Crossroads story, but also as a Kansas City question about access, overhead and what small food businesses need next.

12 — TOP FIVE

65°F before dawn. A high near 78°F. Royals at 12:35 p.m. Art Westport from 11–5. 913 Day at Big Eleven Lake from 2–8.
