Kansas City reached 99°F with a 102°F heat index by 3:54 p.m. The useful Sunday now is an evening built around shade, water and shorter trips: Merriam until 8, Knuckleheads until 6, Pigwich until 7 and Music Hall at 6:30. The night only falls to about 81°F, and a Heat Advisory begins Monday at noon.
STEP OUTSIDE KC
At 3:54 p.m., Downtown Airport reported 99°F, fair skies, 33% humidity, a south wind at 17 mph with gusts to 25 mph, a 102°F heat index and 10 miles of visibility. Sunday night stays mostly clear and unusually warm near 81°F. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from noon Monday through 7 p.m. Wednesday, with afternoon heat indices of 100–105°F.
LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO
Saturday ended with grief at William Jewell College after junior running back MicahJo Barnett collapsed during a game and died. The game was suspended, and the college community gathered in vigil Saturday night. Officials had not publicly identified a cause in the reporting available early Sunday.
ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS
Southwest Trafficway remains the immediate traffic problem: cave-in repairs have all southbound lanes and one northbound lane closed between 29th Street and I-35 through Wednesday, September 2. The long I-70 rebuild closures remain active, and RideKC Route 107 continues its construction detour at 47th Street and Rainbow Boulevard.

Cleveland beat Kansas City 11–1 in Sunday’s series finale, only the Royals’ second loss in 14 games. Kansas City is off Monday before opening a home series with Miami on Tuesday. The Current next travel to Bay FC Friday, September 4 at 9 p.m. CT.

Pigwich at the Historic City Market remains open until 7 p.m. After the daytime lunch windows close, the evening’s clearest food-and-vendor route is Natsu Matsuri at Merriam Marketplace through 8, with Japanese-owned and related businesses gathered under the pavilion.
