STEP OUTSIDE KC — The National Weather Service calls for a mostly sunny, hot Saturday with a high near 100°F and a heat index as high as 106°F. An Extreme Heat Warning continues through Tuesday evening. Start indoors, carry water and treat long exposed walks as optional.

ROADS, CONSTRUCTION & GETTING AROUND — MoDOT’s current Kansas City district notice schedules its next listed I-435 and I-70 overnight lane work for Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 8–11, and says no work is scheduled Monday for Labor Day.

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS — Crown Center has a clear Saturday clock: the National WWI Museum and Memorial opens at 10 a.m.; Kansas City Irish Fest opens at 11 a.m. The useful move is a compact route, not a citywide sprint.

ARTS & CULTURE — Hands-on History runs 10 a.m.–1 p.m. on the Paul Sunderland Glass Bridge and is complimentary with paid museum admission. Irish Fest runs 11 a.m.–11 p.m.; day-of general admission is $40, with separate child pricing.

KC WITHOUT A COVER — Sunday’s Day in the Life: Gas Warfare program runs 10 a.m.–2 p.m. in the Museum’s Auditorium Lobby and is free to the public.

DEAL INTELLIGENCE — Eligible local residents can buy a $10 combination ticket to the Museum’s Main Gallery, exhibition areas and Liberty Memorial Tower through Dec. 30; proof of residency is required in person.

THE EDIT — The order matters more than the mileage. A museum-first morning and a shorter Crown Center route leave room to notice the city without pretending the warning is background decoration.

WHERE TO COOL OFF BEFORE THE POOLS CLOSE

Kansas City gets one last long pool weekend before most outdoor facilities close for the season. These are the strongest options from Saturday, September 5 through Labor Day, Monday, September 7.

Dagg Park, North Kansas City — Splash Pad : an ocean-themed, zero-depth sprayground at 2000 Iron Street. September weekend hours are 10 a.m.–8:30 p.m. It is made for splashing, not lap swimming.

The Springs Aquatic Center — The full water-park day in the Northland, with a lazy river, slides, diving boards and a competition pool. Open noon–8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; Labor Day hours are 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Adult admission is $11.

Roeland Park Aquatic Center — Slides, a climbing wall, diving board, spray area and lap lanes. Open noon–7 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day. Monday is the final day of the season.

Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center, Shawnee — A lazy river, slides, water playground and competition pool. Open 12:30–6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, then 12:30–5 p.m. Monday.

Black Bob Bay, Olathe — A lazy river, raft slides, diving boards and a baby pool. Open 12:30–7 p.m. through Labor Day. Admission for ages 3–61 is $10 for Olathe residents and $12 for nonresidents.

HEAT NOTE: Kansas City is under an extreme heat warning through Tuesday evening. Even at the pool, drink water, use shade and take regular breaks.
