Talk About The Weather — Saturday, September 12, 2026

THE MORNING IS YOUR WINDOW.

Saturday starts humid and usable, then late-day storms put a clock on the city. Lenexa’s Spinach Festival, a Troost native-plant sale and the West Bottoms’ music day make the best route an early one.

1 — WEATHER

THE MORNING IS YOUR WINDOW.

Kansas City was clear and about 74°F at the pre-dawn check. Saturday turns humid near 87°F, with a Marginal Risk for severe storms from late afternoon into the overnight. Hail and damaging winds are the main hazards. Use the morning for outdoor plans and check the radar again before committing to the evening.

2 — OVERNIGHT

KANSAS CITY TOOK THE OPENER.

The Royals beat Boston 3–2 on Friday night. Carter Jensen doubled twice and drove in a run, Salvador Perez added an RBI, Seth Lugo earned the win and Carlos Estévez closed it out.

3 — ROADS, TRANSIT & AIRPORT

THE EVENTS ARE PART OF THE TRAFFIC MAP.

RideKC warns of delays around Fiesta Hispana at the American Royal, the City Market farmers market and Crossroads activity. Troost MAX and Route 107 remain on reroute. MoDOT’s long-term I-70 work continues around Benton, Indiana, Cleveland and the 27th Street bridge. If you are flying, confirm your terminal time with your airline before leaving.

4 — SPORTS

FIRST PITCH IS 3:10.

The Royals stay at Fenway for a 3:10 p.m. Central start. Randy Dobnak is listed against Ranger Suárez. Kansas City enters Saturday with Friday’s 3–2 win already in hand.

5 — LUNCH

TWO WEEKEND TABLES THAT FIT THE CLOCK.

Anthony’s serves Saturday lunch from noon to 3 p.m. La Bodega’s weekend brunch runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If your route already includes Lenexa or the West Bottoms, eat at the event instead of crossing the metro before the late-day weather window closes.

6 — FREE OR LOW COST

FOUR WAYS INTO THE DAY.

Lenexa’s Spinach Festival runs 9 a.m.–4 p.m. with free admission. The Museum of Kansas City is open 10 a.m.–5 p.m. with free general admission and two September 12 programs. Crossroads Music Fest opens with a free Rock Island Bridge day party from noon–3 p.m.; the festival is ticketed after 3. The Gorman Discovery Center native-plant sale runs 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; entry is free and plants cost extra.

7 — NEIGHBORHOODS

PICK ONE SIDE OF THE CITY.

Lenexa, Troost, the Historic Northeast and the West Bottoms each have a real Saturday draw. The weather argues against trying to collect all four. Choose one geography, arrive early and leave room to change the plan.

8 — ARTS & CULTURE

THE WEST BOTTOMS BECOMES THE STAGE.

The 22nd annual KKFI Crossroads Music Fest brings more than 25 acts to seven stages. The Rock Island Bridge program is free from noon–3 p.m.; ticketed programming continues from 3 p.m.–1 a.m. The event benefits listener-powered 90.1 FM KKFI and runs rain or shine—though severe weather still deserves its own decision.

9 — CITY HOROSCOPE

A YOUNG MOON, A WEATHER CLOCK.

Aries: Use the first clear hour. Taurus: Choose one neighborhood and stay with it. Gemini: Confirm the afternoon plan twice. Cancer: Make the indoor backup now. Leo: Take the day party before the ticket gate. Virgo: Read the radar before leaving. Libra: Let the new cycle start small. Scorpio: Do not confuse rain-or-shine with risk-free. Sagittarius: Travel light and return early. Capricorn: Let exact times do the work. Aquarius: Support the listener-powered room. Pisces: Leave room for weather to edit the day.

10 — MOON NOTE

THE CRESCENT IS JUST BEGINNING.

The new moon arrived late Thursday night in Kansas City. Saturday’s moon is a very young waxing crescent, only a few percent illuminated, rising after sunrise and setting near 8:06 p.m. If clouds allow, look low in the west shortly after sunset.

11 — EDITORIAL DISCOVERY

TODAY’S CALENDAR IS WIDE; ITS BEST ROUTE IS NARROW.

The city’s strongest Saturday options are spread across four geographies, but the late storm risk turns this into a one-neighborhood day. The useful pattern is early access: the free and public-facing parts of the schedule happen before the weather becomes the bigger story.

12 — TOP FIVE

THE SHORT VERSION.

1. Keep the morning as your outdoor window. 2. Lenexa Spinach Festival, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. 3. Gorman native-plant sale, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. 4. Free West Bottoms music, noon–3 p.m. 5. Royals at 3:10 p.m., then a fresh weather check before any evening plan.
