The Heat Stayed After Dark. Kansas City Put the Water Beside the Bed.
At 8:54 PM, downtown Kansas City was still 90°F. The heat index was 108. The National Weather Service keeps the metro under a Heat Advisory through 8 PM Monday.

Opening Weather Letter
The car door opens and releases the day all over again. The seatbelt buckle is warm. The pavement has kept its heat. Even after ten, the air has the dense, close feeling of a room where the windows were never opened.
Tonight is not the break between two hot days. It is part of the same heat event. Downtown’s dew point sat near 80°F at the evening observation, and Sunday is expected to rise near 98 with a heat index near 110. Fill the glass before bed. Put tomorrow’s errands on the early side of the clock.

Step Outside KC — Weather Findings
AFTER DARK — The temperature has fallen, but the body still has to work against heat and humidity. Shorten the dog walk, carry water and do not use darkness as proof that the pavement or parked car has cooled.
SUNDAY — The Heat Advisory remains active across the metro. Heat-index values between 105°F and 115°F are possible in the advisory area. The most useful hours are the earliest ones.
SUNDAY NIGHT + MONDAY — Sunday night stays warm near 80°F. The advisory continues through 8 PM Monday, extending the strain on homes, vehicles and people without dependable cooling.

KCMO RETAIL — A Jackson County judge paused enforcement of Kansas City’s single-shot alcohol-sales ban while litigation continues. Stores inside the designated Retail Alcohol Impact Areas may keep selling the products for now.
COMMUNITY HEALTH — Missouri Sen. Barbara Anne Washington and Alpha Kappa Alpha convened the 13th Brunch with Bebe’s Sisters, putting minority mental health, teen violence and domestic violence resources at the same table. Newhouse reported that more than 31,000 local requests for help went unmet last year because beds or resources were unavailable.
OTTAWA — Residents are gathering signatures for a proposed ordinance that would bar data centers. Organizers need 600 signatures within the petition window to force a vote.
NORTHLAND — Olive Park Village neighbors are pressing for action at the vacant apartment complex after repeated fires, keeping housing safety and the cost of neglect in public view.

BLUE SPRINGS — The MO-7 South ramp to I-70 East and eastbound I-70 exits to Adams Dairy Parkway remain closed around the clock through July 27.
LEE’S SUMMIT — The US-50 West ramp to MO-291 is closed through August 7. SE 7th Terrace at MO-291 is also closed.
NORTHLAND — The I-29 South ramp to MO-283/North Oak Trafficway remains closed.
NEXT WEEKEND — I-70 will close in both directions between 23rd Street and the U.S. 40/31st Street interchange for bridge work. Westbound restrictions begin Friday, July 31; the full eastbound closure begins at 8 PM. Reopening is scheduled by 5 AM Monday, August 3.
