STEP OUTSIDE KC

A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms hangs on before about 7–8 a.m., then the official National Weather Service forecast turns sunny with a high near 86°F. Northeast to east-northeast wind stays light, around 3–6 mph. Saturday night is mostly clear with a low near 66°F. The useful move is simple: give the early sky a minute, then plan for a much drier afternoon.

LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

Kansas City, Kansas carried storm cleanup into Friday night, with thousands still without power after the week’s severe weather. Saturday adds a practical community note: the Unified Government has asked for donations and volunteers at the Village Initiative, 3004 N. 27th St. The weekend begins while some blocks are still hauling limbs, checking roofs and waiting for the lights to come back.

MoDOT has a Saturday work window on I-70 eastbound near 18th Street from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: the right lane is scheduled to close and the Indiana Avenue ramp to eastbound I-70 is scheduled to close. The southbound I-435 ramp to eastbound I-70 also has overnight closure work in the weekend window, and a Clay County I-35 lane restriction remains in the mix. Kansas City stacks the evening. The Current host Seattle Reign FC at CPKC Stadium at 5:30 p.m. for the annual Teal Out match. The Royals host Detroit at Kauffman at 6:15 p.m.; parking gates open at 3 p.m., stadium gates at 4:30, and the first 20,000 fans receive a George Brett alternate jersey. PARKVILLE has a riverfront Saturday through English Landing Park and Parkville Days weekend movement. SWOPE PARK carries the broadest cultural table with the Ethnic Enrichment Festival. THE LIBERTY MEMORIAL / 18TH & VINE AXIS pulls baseball history, hot dogs and music into the afternoon. KANSAS CITY, KANSAS is still measuring the week differently, in tree limbs, power restoration and neighbor-to-neighbor help. The metro is not having one Saturday.

ARTS & CULTURE

The Ethnic Enrichment Festival is the day’s widest cultural gathering, running noon–10 p.m. at Swope Park. Midwest Pioneer Day brings Shoal Creek Living History Museum to life from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. with artisans, demonstrations and open buildings. Later, the Heart of America Hot Dog Festival uses food and live music to raise money for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The cultural calendar moves from reenacted craft to living communities to baseball memory.
