Weather
At 4:00 AM CDT, Kansas City International reported about 69°F with a northwest wind near 15 mph, gusting around 23 mph. Visibility was greater than 10 miles beneath an overcast deck near 2,800 feet.
The National Weather Service expects clouds to give way to sun, with a high near 80°F. North wind may reach 14 to 16 mph, with gusts up to 31 mph. Tonight turns mostly clear with a low near 67°F. AirQKC listed no 2026 Ozone Action Alert; anyone planning hard outdoor work should still check the live AirNow map before starting.
Metro Overnight
No citywide emergency bulletin was posted by Kansas City’s public-information desk during the overnight crawl. The morning’s clearest community movement is south: Operation Backpack runs from 11 AM to 2 PM at Swope Park. KCMO residents enter from 67th Street and Swope Parkway for a drive-through distribution while supplies last; there are no walk-ups.
Roads, Transit & Airport
The weekend’s biggest road change is I-70. MoDOT has the interstate closed in both directions between 23rd Street and U.S. 40/31st Street for bridge work, with reopening planned by 5 AM Monday, August 3, weather permitting. Cleveland Avenue and 27th Street bridge closures remain part of the longer Improve I-70 KC work.
RideKC continues construction reroutes affecting Troost MAX, routes 23 and 29 near the Holmes bridge, and routes 402 and 118 near the 18th Street bridge. KC Streetcar reports no active service alert. No airport-wide disruption was confirmed; travelers should use FlyKC’s live board for their individual flight before leaving home.
Sports
The Chiefs practice at 9:15 AM in St. Joseph. Admission is $7, a mobile ticket is required, and the team autograph session follows; practice remains subject to weather and field conditions.
At home, the KC Current face Angel City FC at 5:30 PM at CPKC Stadium. Sporting Kansas City host Houston Dynamo at 7:30 PM at Sporting Park. In Denver, the Royals return after Friday night’s 3–1 loss to Colorado; Saturday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM CDT.

The Nelson-Atkins begins its free Mini to Monumental weekend activity at 11 AM, then opens the Spencer Library for Hidden Treasures at 1:30 PM.
Kemper Museum is open 10 AM to 4 PM with free admission. The Museum of Kansas City adds another free indoor route through Corinthian Hall from 10 AM to 5 PM.
