STEP OUTSIDE KC
At 3:54 p.m., Kansas City Downtown Airport reported 82.9°F under clear skies, with an 86°F heat index and east winds gusting to 22 mph. The National Weather Service zone forecast issued at 11:42 a.m. keeps Monday night mostly clear before some clouds return, with lows in the mid 60s.
LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO
Wyandotte County’s storm recovery remains unfinished. The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities still advises customers to prepare for a multi-day restoration effort after extensive damage and to stay at least 35 feet from downed lines. In baseball, the Royals finished Sunday with an 11–7 win over Detroit, completing a 7–0 homestand and stretching their winning streak to eight games. The Kansas City Current closed Saturday with a 1–1 draw against Seattle.
ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS
The scheduled Monday work window on eastbound I-70 near 18th Street ended at 3 p.m. MoDOT’s next change is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., when two right lanes on westbound I-70 near 18th Street and the 18th Street entrance ramp to westbound I-70 are scheduled to close, weather permitting. Farther east, the Route AA/Buckner Tarsney Road ramp to eastbound I-70 remains scheduled to stay closed through September 15.
FROM THE STANDS
The Royals are idle Monday after eight straight wins and open a road series in Toronto Tuesday at 6:07 p.m. Central. The Current return to CPKC Stadium Saturday, August 29, against North Carolina Courage at 5:30 p.m. Kansas City’s football weekend ended with the Chiefs’ 16–15 preseason loss at Tampa Bay; the next preseason date is Friday against Seattle.

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOODS
The Crossroads moves into evening with two different kinds of traffic: The Belfry’s Monday table and Parlor’s newly empty food-hall space. At Starlight in Swope Park and Morton Amphitheater in Riverside, gates and parking now matter more than the daytime itinerary. In Kansas City, Kansas, restoration crews are still working smaller pockets of storm damage while residents are asked to keep well away from downed lines.
ARTS & CULTURE
Monday night splits in two directions. CAAMP with The Brook & The Bluff plays Starlight Theatre at 7:30 p.m. At Morton Amphitheater, TOTO, Christopher Cross and The Romantics start at 6:45 p.m. Indoors, Timeless Mucha is in its final week at the Nelson-Atkins, while Linda Hall’s free Alchemy of Knowledge exhibition returns Tuesday morning.
CITY HOROSCOPE

Cancer — Keep the small plan; it may be the one that actually happens. Leo — Let someone else hold the room for a minute. Virgo — The 3 p.m. work window has closed; make the evening simpler. Libra — A concert lawn counts as a reset. Scorpio — Notice who keeps showing up quietly. Sagittarius — The sky is clear and warm; follow suit. Capricorn — Finish the practical thing first. Aquarius — Keep the strange idea in the notebook. Pisces — Watch the evening sky before the light goes.
MOON NOTE
The moon is waxing gibbous Monday night at about 91.2% illumination. Moonrise is around 6:21 p.m., with the moon crossing the meridian around 11:05 p.m. The next full moon arrives Thursday, August 27, at 11:18 p.m.
EDITORIAL DISCOVERY
Kansas City’s downtown Royals stadium proposal moved from negotiation into a formal city framework last week. On August 20, the City Council passed Ordinance 260704 as substituted, authorizing agreements tied to a proposed Washington Square Park/Crown Center stadium project. The ordinance establishes a Special Obligation Downtown Stadium Bond Fund, appropriates an initial $20 million in bond proceeds as part of the city contribution and reaffirms the city’s stated intent to provide $600 million toward the project. The next useful reporting is in the repayment structure, implementation agreements and the public details that follow the vote.
