Tonight stays mostly clear with a low near 69°F. Tuesday turns sunny and hotter, with a high near 91°F and a heat index near 96. Keep outdoor errands early; thunderstorms become possible Tuesday night, with showers more likely after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
02 · LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO
By evening, the weekend shooting that injured four people, including two juveniles, sits beside a broader decline in violence: Kansas City recorded 68 homicides in the first half of 2026, down from 82 in the same period last year; by mid-August the count was 79, compared with 102 a year earlier. One night does not erase the trend, and the trend does not erase one night.

Two long-running closures still shape Tuesday: the northbound I-435 connector to northbound U.S. 71 in Jackson County is closed for bridge reconstruction through September 1, and the northbound U.S. 169 ramp to northbound Missouri 9 in Clay County is closed through July 2028.
