Kansas City opens Friday near 78°F with light rain at the latest accessible MCI observation. Showers are likely before 1 PM, then clouds break toward a high near 88°F. Friday night turns mostly clear with a low around 70°F.

STEP OUTSIDE KC — WEATHER FINDINGS

NOW — MCI’s latest accessible official observation, stamped 10:53 PM Thursday, reported 78°F, light rain, overcast skies, a southeast wind at 9 mph and 10 miles of visibility.

FRIDAY — The National Weather Service calls for showers likely before 1 PM, then partly sunny conditions and a high near 88°F. The rain chance is 60 percent.

FRIDAY NIGHT — Mostly clear with a low around 70°F. Saturday is forecast mostly sunny with a high near 84°F.

AIR QUALITY — AirQKC lists no 2026 Ozone Action Alert. The live public feed did not return a dependable Kansas City AQI number at 4:08 AM, so check AirNow or AirQKC before strenuous outdoor work.

LAST NIGHT IN THE METRO

STREETCAR LEDGER — The official KC Streetcar recap counts 838,826 trips from June 11 through July 11, including a record 55,973 rides on July 11. Three-quarters of June trips began or ended outside the Fan Festival zone.

AIRPORT LEDGER — MCI’s June report counts 1,127,270 arriving and departing passengers, up 2.19 percent from June 2025. Friday travelers still need the live airline and FlyKC board for the current gate picture.

CITY DESKS — As of 4:08 AM, Kansas City’s public release pages carried no new citywide overnight emergency bulletin. The 9 AM Public Improvement Advisory Committee meeting remains on the city calendar.

ROADS, RAMPS & WRECKS

I-70 DOWNTOWN — MoDOT closes westbound I-70 at 1 PM and eastbound I-70 at 8 PM between 23rd Street and U.S. 40/31st Street. Lane and ramp closures start at 9 AM. The full interstate closure runs into Monday, August 3.

RAMPS — Van Brunt to westbound I-70 and U.S. 40/31st to westbound I-70 close during the morning setup. Eastbound entrances from 23rd, Jackson and Van Brunt also close. Use KC Scout for the moving map.

U.S. 169 — The southbound left lane remains closed from Englewood Road to south of I-29 through August 7 for bridge painting. KanDrive covers the Kansas side of the metro.

TRANSIT — RideKC keeps reroutes active around Holmes bridge work and long-running I-70 construction. KC Streetcar remains fare-free. In KCK, Friday is the final day of the special IRIS service extension running 7 AM–11 PM.

MCI — No airport-wide disruption was confirmed. Frontier’s new nonstop Orlando service is scheduled to begin November 20; today’s travelers should check the airline and FlyKC flight board before leaving.

FROM THE STANDS

CHIEFS — Friday practice begins at 9:15 AM at Missouri Western in St. Joseph. Defensive backs are scheduled for autographs, and the Kingdom XP video-gaming pop-up is on the official camp calendar. Practice is free; prepaid campus parking is $8.

ROYALS — Kansas City opens a road series at Colorado at 7:40 PM CDT. The official MLB schedule is the last word on first pitch and broadcast details.

SPORTING KC — Houston Dynamo visits Sporting Park Saturday at 7:30 PM for Harry Potter Night.

KC CURRENT — Kansas City carries Wednesday’s 5–1 win over Racing Louisville into the weekend ledger. Haley Hopkins scored twice.

BABA’S PANTRY — 1019 E. 63rd St. The Palestinian-American deli opens 11 AM–7 PM Friday. Order at the counter and check the day’s case before choosing the table.

JOE’S KANSAS CITY — 3002 W. 47th Ave. The original gas-station location serves Friday 11 AM–10 PM and takes walk-ins only.

PIGWICH — 20 E. 5th St. in City Market. The sandwich counter lists Friday hours from 11 AM–7 PM.

MILDRED’S — 1901 Wyandotte St. The Crossroads cafe serves Friday 7 AM–4 PM; the Baltimore and South Plaza counters close at 3 PM.

KC WITHOUT A COVER

KALEIDOSCOPE — 288 E. 25th St. Hallmark’s art-making studio is free for children 14 and under with an adult. Friday has timed sessions; small groups may walk in, while larger groups need reservations.

NELSON-ATKINS — General admission is free. Friday hours run 10 AM–5 PM, and the free Docent Spotlight Station is scheduled from 1–2 PM.

POP IN AT THE PARK — Lykins Square Park, 415 E. 7th St., 3:30–5:30 PM. The KC Parks program offers a free book, family activities and youth resources.

FRIDAY NIGHT SOUND BITES — Lenexa Public Market, 8750 Penrose Lane, 7–10 PM. Unfit Wives plays outside on the Lower Commons. Admission and parking are free; food is sold separately. Check the market’s weather status after 3 PM.

THE FOLD — The new American restaurant marked its grand opening June 30. Its Friday service runs 3–10 PM, happy hour 3–6 PM, and The Den continues later.

COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA — V Modern Italian is the first restaurant announced for the Cocina 47 project at 604 W. 47th St., with an opening targeted for late 2026 or early 2027.

CROSSROADS — Leedy-Voulkos closes several current exhibitions today. Adjusted Friday hours are 11 AM–3 PM, and admission is free.
