By 3:54 p.m., Kansas City had reached 88°F under clear skies at Downtown Airport, with a southeast wind at 7 mph, 36% humidity and ten miles of visibility. Tonight stays mostly clear near 71°F. The sharper change comes this weekend: Saturday reaches about 95 with gusts to 22 mph, Sunday reaches about 98, and the National Weather Service expects heat index values near 100 to 105 from Sunday through next Friday.
The Friday shape
Friday evening stays open before the heat becomes the city’s defining story. Two free community gatherings begin at 6, Full Tilt opens its inaugural sports-storytelling festival at Union Station, and the night remains mostly clear.
Move through the city
The daytime downtown ramp closures are scheduled to end around 5 p.m. Friday. For the evening commute, RideKC’s 18 Indiana is rerouting for Wine Walk for Wildlife from 2 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday. In Lee’s Summit, the right lane of westbound U.S. 50 from Todd George Road to northbound Missouri 291 closes at about 8 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to remain closed until 8 p.m. Saturday. All work is weather permitting.
From the stands
The Royals open Friday night in Cleveland. First pitch against the Guardians is listed for 6:10 p.m. Central, with Michael Wacha scheduled against Tanner Bibee. The official MLB listing remains the cleanest place to check for late lineup, timing or broadcast changes.
After dark
Full Tilt Film Festival opens at Union Station with a 5:30 p.m. cocktail hour, followed by the Friday Night Lights 20th Anniversary Roadshow and after-party at 7. Neighbor Night at PH Coffee and Downtown Olathe’s Fourth Fridays both run from 6 to 9 p.m.; both are listed as free, and Neighbor Night includes a pay-what-you-can community meal.
Friday’s arts window now belongs to opening-night film, neighborhood music and community gathering. Belger Arts’ daytime exhibition closed at 5 p.m. and has been removed from the evening picks.

Cru Bistro in Brookside lists Friday happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m.: $7 wine, $9 cocktails and $2 off beer and appetizers. Harry’s Bar & Tables in Westport lists daily happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m., with $7 snacks and $6 glasses of wine, local drafts and select cocktails. The Savoy downtown lists weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Details were rechecked on each business’s own site for the evening edit.
Worth knowing
Use Friday night while it is still easy to move through the city. The overnight low near 71 gives way to a hotter, gustier Saturday, then a prolonged stretch of near-100 to 105 heat index values beginning Sunday.
